Looking Behind While Flying Forward

I know that flying high up in the sky is not everyone's favorite pastime. Somehow though, it is mine. I love the feeling of "endlessness" all around. Except when I look down. If I think about it for too long and too hard, my mind starts to implode with thoughts like...what have I put myself in...metal suspended 30,000 feet in the air? This may not be a logical choice. But when I look out the window and see where I came from, I am reminded of a beautiful view that can only come from this place, this perspective, and this death-defying experience. And life is like that. When the road ahead seems risky, looking back and not keeping the head down, gives us the strength and reminds us that behind was once ahead. It was beautiful and so flying forward will be just as delightful if not more so, as long as we keep the head up!

Adventure Awaits
Royal Gorge Park, Canon City, Colorado was about a two hour drive from the hotel in CO. I'll never forget the drive out to the nation's highest suspension bridge. Once I heard about it, I had to go. I had heard it was windy but I still wanted to take the ride in the cable car across the gorge. I was by myself. I went up to the ticket counter and stared at the cable connected into the rock. I felt like I was going to die if I went in that car. I pulled out the money and my hand froze. There was no way the cable would hold me. "What about the wind?" I asked myself. After several minutes of instense deliberation, I saw a few other people pay their money, and I decided to go for it. The cable car and the ride across the canyon defies common sense, logic. And yet, I am here to remember it. Although the trip itself is a distant memory, I pull out my pics, and reflect on the lesson learned that day as it is still fresh in my mind. Seldom does adventure come knocking, almost always it rewards those who reach out to it. ( I was suspended in mid-air half way between the gorge as this picture was being taken. I could not have taken this pic from the sidelines.)
